Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) Vodder
Method
MLD is designed to improve
the function of the lymphatic system. This is achieved through extremely
gentle, rhythmical, pumping movements of the skin (not the muscles)
that stimulate the contractions of the lymphatic vessels, which in turn
speed up the removal of fluids and toxins from the area worked on. MLD
also has an ultra-relaxing effect on the nervous system. A healthy lymphatic
system plays an important role in the body's immune system. The Danish
therapist, Dr Emil Vodder, developed this technique in the 1930s, which
has since become a popular treatment in hospitals and spas in Europe.
This decongestive
therapy benefits the following conditions:
Acne
Burns & wounds
Leg Ulcers
Lymphoedema
Lipoedema
Truncal Oedema
Scar tissue appearance
Fluid Retention |
Arthritis
Bell's Palsy
Inflammation
Insomnia
Migraine
Sinusitis
Stress
Tinnitus |
Treatment
No oils are used. The skin is
stretched in the direction of lymphatic flow with an ultra light pressure
of fingers and palm of hands. During your first visit a course of treatments
is discussed, which may be 3-5 times a week to start, or simply once
weekly depending on your condition and what needs to be addressed. Sessions
can vary from between 45 and 90 minutes.
Specialized treatments for
lymphoedema and lipoedema are also available.
Intensive Combined Decongestive
Therapy (CDT) sessions, comprising of daily sessions of MLD
combined with bandaging of 2-3 week duration is offered in the cooler
months (November to February) in Cyprus.
MLD
enhances any detoxification programmes.
